Hello! My name is Joel DeBlaay and I am the new Assistant & Youth Pastor at Glacierview Baptist Church in Homer, Alaska.
I grew up in Christian home in Midland, Michigan. I was saved at the age of 5 when my older brother was preaching to me from the end of his bed telling me that I was going to hell if I did not accept Jesus. That evening, my mother led me to the Lord. At the age of 14, I rededicated my life to the Lord. I feel blessed to have been raised in a Christian home.
I went off to college at Northland Baptist Bible College in Dunbar, Wisconsin where I met, and eventually married my wife Dayla. During my senior year, Dayla and I saw the clear leading of God on our lives to "go west" and reach the many lost souls in the western regions of the United States.
God quickly directed Dayla and I to Colorado where we served in a church in Parker for three years. God then opened the door for us to work at Majestic View Church in Kiowa. I was the pastor of Outreach and Children's ministries. I oversaw all of the children's ministries from nursery through 6th grade. I also oversaw the middle school ministry.
After much prayer and leading of the Lord, Dayla and I felt the continued leading of the Lord to full-time ministry and applied for the current ministry position for and were contacted by Glacierview Baptist Church in the summer of 2010. God gave us the peace in our hearts for His calling to Homer, Alaska and bound our hearts to the people and ministry at Glacierview very quickly. I currently oversee the Youth and Children’s Ministries along with additional Administrative oversights and other ministry involvements. We are so very blessed to be a part of the work and ministry of God in Homer, AK and along side the people of Glacierview Baptist Church. We are excited about all of the possibilities the Lord has in store for us in our future ministry here.
In my free time I enjoy playing, watching, coaching, or cheering in virtually every sport invented. I am also a very avid outdoorsman, and will occasionally partake in hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping with my family and friends.
Dayla and I have a wonderful 2 year old son named Leighton, and a baby girl on the way (due in December 2010), as well as our wonderful dog, Chakuta.
I am seeking to bring glory to Christ alone. It is my desire is to teach the children and young people at Glacierview Baptist Church, the community of Homer, Alaska, the surrounding areas, and around the world how to live a life of passion for Christ by faith alone. I have attempted to live my life with the calling of Philippians 3:14 in mind, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
